Five Things You Didn’t Know About Corrine Bailey Rae

Corinne Bailey Rae is beautiful inside and out. She has has a great singing career and has managed to keep herself relevant and grounded. Here are more things that will make you love her even more… See what other secrets Corrine has under her sleeve.

1. THERE’S NO MAKEUP ARTIST ON HER TOUR

“I always do my own makeup before gigs. I find that I need that personal space before I go on. I like to play up my eyes with metallic shades because you can see them from a distance.  I stay away from lipstick—otherwise there’d be a bare spot in the middle of my mouth from the mike!”

2. SHE HAD TEEN SPIRIT

” I started playing the violin when I was 6,  and I carried on for almost 10 years. When I turned 15, I picked up the guitar. It was around the time when there were loads of grunge bands on TV, like Nirvana, and there songs were less constructed. I just watched and learned.”

3. IF SHE LIKES IT, SHE PINS IT

“I’m composing a new album, and Pinterest is a great way to keep a record of ideas. I’m also really into the visual aspect of how people present themselves. I have a board called Them There Eyes with inspiring eye-makeup looks and another called Kink/Curl/Twist/Dred that’s all about natural hair.”

4. SHE LIKES TO GET HER HANDS DIRTY.

” I just finished a 20-week course on ceramics. It’s hands-on, visual, and I love that you don’t have to plan anything—and it’s just clay so you can change your mind as you go along! It’s a nice change of pace to do something creative that has nothing to do with music.”

5. HER SISTERS ARE HER BEST FRIENDS.

“I’m the oldest of three girls. Our fathers is from St. Kitts, in the West Indies, and our mum is English. My parents and I live in Leeds [in northern England]. My youngest sister lives in L.A. and my middle sister in London. We’re very close in age, so we’re like a little gang.”
