Two Designers and a First Lady

Long before the White House came knocking at their design door, the dynamic duo that is Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs were already pretty successful. Receiving the right education at the most prestigious schools in designs, they decided to launch a clothing line together called Cushine et Ochs after finishing school for under $100,000.

Upon graduation the two were featured in WWD magazine showing off their latest senior collections of Cushine et Ochs. Along with their success came a plethora of rejections— retailers and buyers wouldn’t even grant them a showing.

But once Michelle Obama was photographed wearing one of the designers dresses at last year’s televised “Christmas In Washington” soon Cushnie and Ochs were suddenly getting dismissed phone calls returned. Funny how that works.

Meet designers Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs co-founders of Cushine et Ochs. The special duo made it from interning around the clock 24/7 by having determination, refusing to listen to what their parents had to say (because sometimes parents just don’t understand). After reading their story in Glamour September 2012 issue these two dynamite chicks are destined for a lot more recognition. Thanks to our first lady who knows her own style and doesn’t follow the hype of fashion. Now that’s class.

Inside scoop:

Carly Cushnie is originally from London at attended Parson School of Design both in Paris and New York and has a B.A in Fashion Design. She also interned at Donna Karan, Proenza Schouler and Oscar de la Renta.
