Each week we’re going to spotlight some of our favorite Facebook pages. This week’s focus is on health and fitness. No need to fret if you don’t see your page. You can always hit us up with a link. We’d greatly appreciate it. There’s only so much time in the day and space on a page. Not to mention there are so many people doing positively interesting and amazing things that it’s nearly impossible to include them all in one post. Wouldn’t want you to fall asleep. Don’t forget to ‘LIKE’ them on Facebook if you haven’t already. Tell ’em ARTA CHIC sent ya’.
Black Women “DO” Workout Get your daily dose of women sharing the trials, tribulations and triumphs of weight gain and loss. This page is real. Sisters swapping healthy recipes, words of encouragement and exercise tips. Promoting clean eating and leading an active lifestyle is their focus. www.bwdwo.com
Black Girls RUN! They’re on a mission to change the startling statistics that reveal 4 out of 5 women are obese. Their goal is to dispel the myths and get everyone up and moving. That means you too. So grab a pair of running shoes, I’m sure they have tips on finding the right fit, and head over to their page. www.BlackGirlsRUN.com

Healthy Black Women and Girls. These ladies have one goal in mind and that’s to get everyone up and walking daily. Looking to walk your way to health? Check out their site www.girltrek.org . Sign up is easy. I think what I dig the most about HBWG‘s daily posts is that there are no exclusions. Everyone’s story or experienced is not only shared but welcomed. No self-righteous preaching. Just a purely motivational vibe that will kickstart any couch potato into high gear.
Vegin’ Out A great home delivery service of vegan fare. Even if you aren’t vegan, vegetarian or leaning in that direction it’s a nice change from the normal overindulgence of takeout or heavily processed food. Yes, the food is rather tasty. Their vegan desserts were not only comparable in taste to their traditional counterparts but often surpassed them in taste. They’ll even deliver to your office. Our staff tried it for a week. Some liked it more than others. But we are all forever changed as the result. Food education is key to developing and maintaining a healthy eating regimen. Baby steps. We’re all in this together. www.VeginOut.com

Black Surfing Association Although this group is now closed I had to give mention. Simply put it’s a place where cats can go and talk about all things surf, sand, beach, contests and board shaping. Just reading some of the posts and watching the videos is enough to get anybody stoked. What’s cool is that it shows us breaking yet another stereotypical mold. Yes, America we catch waves too. Check out the documentary “Whitewash”. Lots of history. Maybe if enough people inbox the BSA they’ll reopen the group. In the meantime there’s also the Black Surfers Collective which is currently open. It’s a well known fact that surfing promotes a calm sense of being and is also a great workout. Win! Win!
