Who says Drake is the only one poppin’ things off in Toronto?! There’s a female doing her thing too. She’s not a rapper. But she is wrapping it up on the runways, melting snowstorms wherever you see her face in a fashion spread. Meet the gorgeous Ranae Teemal Thomas who stands 5’11 with hypnotically striking features.
Born in raised on the beautiful Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago, Thomas moved to Toronto, Ontario Canada nine years ago. After living there for five years she was discovered by two agents while shopping in a department store. They loved her look and gave her their contact information. She decided to follow up and has been living a dream ever since. ARTA took time out to catch up with Ranae Temmal Thomas.
What do you love most about modeling?
Walking the catwalk of course! The music booming, strutting your stuff in beautiful clothing, lights and camera’s flashing. It really pumps me up!
Who’s your favorite designer?
Do you have a favorite model or icon?
Yes, Liya Kebede. Not only is she beautiful and humble, she always gives back to the community.
What’s your idea of fun?
Getting glammed up and partying it up with my friends (smile).
I love cooking. I recently visited Paris and brought back tons of cookbooks. I try a new French recipe every week. More recently, I’ve started designing jewelry. The pieces I design are really outstanding. I got bored with the cookie cutter jewelry I would find at stores and wanted to create pieces that set me apart from the crowd in a stylish and edgy way.
Favorite band? Favorite music?
I love the 90’s hip-hop so I’d have to say A Tribe Called Quest. My favorite music is Soca and Reggae.
Right now I’d have to say my large Prada bag, my iPhone, and my black thigh high boots.
Do you have a site or blog?
Yes. My blog is: Faire-delamode.blogspot.com. You can catch me on facebook @Renae Teemal Thomas
Do you have any advice to give to our ARTA CHIC readers?
My advice to black, mixed or colored models just starting out is to stick it out! The industry is tough, you’re going to get a lot of nos, you’re going to be under a lot of pressure. Don’t give up! Don’t take it personally! Just brush it off and move on to the next opportunity.
There you have it. ARTA would like to thank Ranae for chatting it up with us. Keep doing your thing Ranae! You’re definitely ARTA CHIC.
